STEADY HOLIDAY MOTHERS

We were switched on to L.A.-based songwriter Steady Holiday (aka Dre Babinki)'s eerie alt-pop with the arrival of her brilliantly unsettling single 'Who's Gonna Stop Us' last month. The accomplished follow up 'Mothers' makes tiny nods to everything from the sultry sophistication of Serge & Charlotte Gainsbourg to the melancholy trip-hop of Portishead and the evocative vocals of PJ Harvey's Let England Shake. Sharing her inspiration behind the track, Babinski tells us, "Some have a hard time distinguishing compassion from the slippery slope of altruism. This character is one of them, hesitant to 'give an inch', anticipating what will be asked of her next. Maybe it's more convenient to keep the door locked next time." Steady Holiday's new album Nobody's Watching will arrive on the 5th of October. -Holly Mullineaux
